Michelle Dee answers previous Miss Universe questions on podcast
It's still quite some time before Miss Universe Philippines Michelle Dee competes for the Miss Universe crown in El Salvador, but the country representative is already flexing her question and answer skills in a podcast.
Michelle answered Miss Universe Q and A questions from 1994, 1997, 2008, and 2012 on the Updated with Nelson Canlas podcast, showing off her quick thinking and sharing a little bit about her inner life as well.
When asked the same question that won Sushmita Sen her 1994 Miss Universe crown, Michelle stressed the importance of a woman's confidence.
“I think the true essence of a woman is her confidence. It's her confidence in herself, in the actions that she chooses to do, in the way she looks at life. Because when you're confident all throughout then you will shine uniquely, transformatively and you can achieve anything you set your mind to do,” she said.
Meanwhile, Michelle put her family in the center when it came to answering the question that won Brook Lee the 1997 Miss Universe crown: “If there were no rules in your life for one day and you could be outrageous, what would you do?” According to Michelle, she would head straight to Utah and spend time with her family there.
“Because for me time is the only resource that you can never buy, take back or stop. And I've lost so much time just working on my career that if I could cut back on work, takas muna tayo, and just spend time with the people that have been with me since I was young and I would choose to do that in a heartbeat,” she explained.
When it came to the Miss Universe 2008 question “Who have it easier in life, men or women?” Michelle called on both genders to work together to create an “all-inclusive world.”
“I don't believe in invalidating anybody else's experiences, but we do live in a world where women and inequality is still prevalent, I believe if we just all choose to be kind and really work together to make an all-inclusive world that we can truly create a universe that's worth living and I think it's really important to just stay true to our core, really stay true to our purpose. Because we all have different journeys, we all have unique journeys that are incomparable to one another, so we should just choose to be kind,” she said.
Finally, when it came to the Miss Universe 2012 question: “What is something that you have done that you will never do again?” Michelle once again went back to the idea of time.
“I will never--I've learned this the hard way… and that's to waste time. This is coming from experience that I didn't get to make the most out of the time with my grandmother when she was still alive. And I took that time for granted like I mentioned earlier,” she shared. “Time is the only resource you can never take back, you can never stop, and you can never take away. Kaya I would really choose to use my time wisely and really make sure that no time is wasted because I've learned it the hard way. But through those experiences, I've become a much stronger and wiser person that lives a life with no regret.”
Michelle Dee triumphed over 38 other candidates thanks to her response to the question: "Recently, the Department of Tourism has adapted a new branding campaign, 'We give the world our best.' For you, what is the best that we can offer to the rest of the world? Why do you consider it so?"
Michelle had this response: " I firmly believe that the best natural resource that the Philippines is us Filipinos. We are the true heart and soul of the Philippines with the way we are hospitable, with our warm smiles... And we are the reason why the world keeps coming back for more. No matter where the universe takes me, I'll always be proud to call the Philippines my home. And no matter what happens I will always be proud to call myself Pinoy."
Even before the question and answer competition, Michelle had already won the evening gown competition.
