Younger generations would find it difficult to believe that Dingdong Dantes hasn’t always been as intense an actor as he is today.

Seventeen years ago, he was a teen star who was trying his best to balance show business and schooling.

“Hesitant pa ako na magtuloy-tuloy sa showbiz kasi nag-aaral ako nun eh,” he said.

He also wasn’t as accepting with roles. The Dingdong Dantes who was beginning his career would have second thoughts about portraying a man with two wives.

“[Also], yung choice of roles, hindi ko tinotodo kaya limited lang din 'yung binibigay sa ‘kin,” he added.

The awkward and uneasy stages that StarStruck hopefuls go through is completely understandable and relatable to Dingdong. He himself went through periods of self-discovery and soul-searching before he really knew that this was the industry he wants to be part of.

“Later on ko na lang na-realize na talagang gusto ko talaga dito and ito talaga 'yung main business,” he shared.

Once he knew he wanted to be an actor, he worked towards making himself better so that he can be good at what he does.

“Unti-unti kong hinanap 'yung niche ko saka kung ano 'yung magiging kumportable akong gawin, kung ano 'yung expertise [na pwede kong i-aim], kung ano 'yung nasa puso ko talaga, so it really took quite some time,” he disclosed.

For the former teen actor and now Primetime King, those who want to make it in show business don’t need to hurry. As in all endeavors that succeed, it should take time and perseverance.
