Skye Chua at the 2024 Philippine National Figure Skating Championships

Skye Chua participated in this year's Philippine National Figure Skating Championships.

National athlete Skye Chua successfully completed her two-day local figure skating competition despite her recurring hip injury.

The figure skater and Sparkle star competed for two days at this year's Philippine National Figure Skating Championships under the senior women's category.

On the second day of the competition last Friday, November 8, Skye felt her hip injury act up once again in the middle of her performance, but she still managed to complete her routine.

Skye placed fifth on the second day of the competition after garnering a score of 88.64.

In an interview with GMANetwork.com, Skye said she “could have done better” with her new routine.

“I'm happy to perform this and share this to everyone, but I hope in the next competition, I do better with this program,” she continued.

According to Skye, she also suffered from the same injury last year.

“I had the same injury, parang 'di na siya gumagaling. It just comes back,” she said.

On the first day of the figure skating competition at the SM Mall of Asia Ice Skating Rink, Skye chose to perform a more upbeat and dancey routine that people can dance along to.

Meanwhile, she went for a more dark and mature routine on the second day, which she had fun performing.

“I really enjoyed it, but I wish I could have executed it better,” Skye mused.

Skye focused more on strength training for this competition, which meant more gym training off the ice mixed with morning training on the ice.

When asked how she manages to balance her time as an athlete and as an artist, Skye highlighted prioritization.

“Whatever is more of a priority to be at that time, 'yun yung pina-prioritize ko and also time management,” she said.

Skye took home Milo's Grit Award at the 2024 Philippine National Figure Skating Championships.
