The year 2020 has been plagued by different challenges.
The year will perhaps be most remembered for the COVID-19 pandemic, the resulting local and global lockdowns and in turn, the lockdown's effect on the livelihood of many people all over the world.
For the Philippines, the country has also faced the eruption of the Taal Volcano earlier in the year.
This has caused many residents living near the volcano, as well as those living in the nearby provinces, to be displaced due to the volcanic activity and ashfall.
Once more, livelihood has been affected as tourism in the area took a huge hit.
Also, events such as location weddings in the neighboring areas of Tagaytay, some parts of Cavite and Batangas have been affected.
This left hotels, restaurants, and many other places without any income.
And then towards the end of the year, the country was battered by back-to-back typhoons, Rolly and Ulysses.
Both have caused massive flooding and has destroyed homes and infrastructures like schools.
The typhoons also heavily affected farmers who were left reeling after having their fields submerged and their crops destroyed.
Throughout all of these, Filipinos have continued to prove that the bayanihan spirit is well and alive.
Corporations and private individuals have banded together to help those who have been affected.
Celebrities have also joined in and used their own platforms and privileged positions to help.
Many have used their social media accounts to direct their followers to where they can donate. Some even did their own fundraising, while others called on their friends and the brand they work with for help.
A few chose to use money from their own pockets or offered their special skills to various causes.

'Wowowin' host Willie Revillame made good with his promise and donated Php 5 million to jeepney drivers whose livelihoods were affected by the lockdown. Earlier in the year, his special birthday episode on 'Wowowin' was dedicated to relief operations for those affected by the Taal Volcano eruption. He has also sold a few of his luxury vehicles and donated the proceeds to people affected by typhoons Rolly and Ulysses.
Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera donated her breast milk to mothers who might need it during the COVID-19 pandemic. Breastfeeding, as well as donating her excess breast milk, has also been longtime advocacy of Marian.
Tom Rodriguez offered his superb art skills to Guhit Pantawid: Portraits for a Cause whose beneficiaries are jeepney drivers, street vendors, and construction workers who lost their livelihoods due to the lockdown. For a donation of P500, you can get a digital portrait drawn by Tom himself.
Kapuso husband and wife Mikael Daez and Megan Young prepared relief packs and provided financial assistance for the production staff of 'Love of My Life' as a gesture of solidarity and gratitude.
Asia's Multimedia Star Alden Richards was able to raise P222,222 in his AR Gaming Livestream for those who were affected by typhoons Rolly and Ulysses. Aside from this, he personally delivered his donations to Taal evacuees earlier in the year. He has also given a monetary donation to his alma mater Paco Catholic School when he learned that the institution opened its doors to street dwellers during the pandemic.
Queen of Creative Collaborations Heart Evangelista provided tablets for students who need them for online classes during the pandemic. Heart sold a few of her paintings to be able to buy the 550 tablets to give away before formally launching Big Heart PH which aims to give more students tablets for the incoming school year.
Award-winning journalist and documentarist Howie Severino donated his plasma twice after surviving and recovering from COVID-19. Convalescent plasma is one of the experimental treatments for COVID-19 patients.
Jason Abalos launched The Clean Water Project which aims to provide clean drinking water to families affected by the typhoons in Cagayan and Isabela. He says the project is also one of the ways he celebrated his birthday and asked friends to donate to his cause instead of giving him gifts.
Kapuso Drama King Dennis Trillo and Ultimate Star Jennylyn Mercado launched a relief drive called StarTruck, a hat tip to Jennylyn's showbiz roots. The Kapuso couple called for donations to them fill a ten-wheeler truck with donations to give to residents in Cagayan who were affected by the typhoons.
Ruru Madrid visited his childhood neighborhood in Marikina which was devastated by flooding caused by typhoon Ulysses. He and his family gave out drinking water, food, and other relief items to the residents, some of which are their friends and former neighbors.
