Beauty queen Sharifa Akeel married Maguindanao Second District representative Esmael "Toto" Mangudadatu, yesterday August 25.
Their wedding banquet was held at the Al Nor Hotel and Convention Center in Cotabato City with limited guests due to health and safety protocols brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sharifa was crowned Miss Asia Pacific International in 2018.
In 2020, congressman Mangudadatu's wife Mylene Mangudadatu alleged that Sharifa was having an affair with her husband.
Mylene made her allegations public through Facebook posts and by appearing in the public service program 'Wanted sa Radyo' of broadcaster and host Raffy Tulfo.
She also claimed that the congressman, who is a Muslim and practices Islam, already has four wives--the maximum allowed by his faith.
"Mayroon na po. Actually, kumpleto na 'yung slot. Sa list of marriages, kumpleto na po," Mylene claimed.
Sharifa seemingly tried to defend herself by making her own public Facebook post calling out a person she tagged as "Miss Desperada."
"It's you who did a good job of showing your true colors all on your own. Don't blame me with your failed marriage and failed life. Blame your attitude that defines who you are right now," part of Sharifa's open letter read.
After their wedding, Sharifa revealed that she and congressman Mangudadatu have known each other for six years.
"The road that led me to you was not easy. No matter how hard I tried to fight it, no matter how much others wanted to fight it, fate wanted us to be together.
"When I realized and then accepted that, love and happiness filled my life, and I realized that you, who has been there for the past 6 years, was all that I was missing.
"I am excited to take on this new adventure, this new phase in my life, because I will be going on it with you, Husband," she wrote on Instagram as she shared a photo of her and congressman Mangudadatu wearing their wedding attire.
