The Miss Asia Pacific International pageant is set to crown a new queen today, October 7, at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, and one candidate that has been gaining buzz is the half-Filipina representative of New Zealand, Katharina Weischede.

The 18-year-old beauty queen was just named as the first runner-up of the Miss Asia Pacific International national costume segment, and was also named the Darling of the Press and Miss OPMB Worldwide at the press presentation held last week.

In an exclusive interview with GMA Lifestyle, Katharina explained that she found pageantry an empowering exercise, and a great way “to spread advocacies, to spread knowledge, to help people.”
