Josh Santana pays tribute to Barbie Hsu

Following Barbie Hsu's sudden passing, Filipino singer-turned-doctor Josh Santana paid a heartfelt tribute to the Meteor Garden star.

On Instagram, Josh fulfilled netizens' requests by performing his Tagalog version of the hit drama series' theme song, "Can't Help Fallin."

The video, which opens with Josh in his doctor uniform, features a soulful acapella rendition of the song. Fans quickly praised his moving performance, which evoked a wave of nostalgia for the beloved 2001 Taiwanese series.

The singer shared in the captions, "I've been asked to sing this so many times before and I've kept many people waiting because of my busy schedule."

He continued, "However, I can no longer keep an entire generation of Meteor Garden fans waiting most especially now that we all would like to pay tribute to the one and only Barbie Hsu who gave life to the character of Shan Cai."

Josh's performance resonated deeply with his followers, as Filipino Meteor Garden fans flooded the comment section. Many expressed how emotional they became while listening, noting how Josh's voice still carried the same heartfelt emotion as it did when the song was first released.

As of writing, the video garnered over 102,000 views and 3,000 heart reactions.

Originally sung by Taiwanese artist Harlem Yu, “Can't Help Fallin” was released in Tagalog by Josh in 2004, shortly after Meteor Garden premiered in the Philippines.

The Taiwanese drama became a massive hit, deeply engraved in the hearts of Filipino fans for its captivating and romantic storyline. It follows the story of Shan Cai (Barbie), a poor girl who navigates life with four wealthy boys--Dao Ming Si (Jerry Yan), Xi Men (Ken Chu), Mei Zuo (Vanness Wu), and Hua Ze Lei (Vic Chou).

Recently, My Ilonggo Girl star Yasser Marta also honored Barbie Hsu with his own rendition of the Tagalog Meteor Garden theme song as a tribute.

Barbie's co-stars in the series Jerry Yan, Ken Chu, and Rainie Yang also shared their sorrow over the loss of their dear friend, posting heartfelt messages and photos.

Barbie Hsu passed away on February 3 due to complications from pneumonia caused by influenza. Her death was confirmed by her younger sister, Taiwanese entertainer Dee Hsu.
