Lara Raj of the global girl group KATSEYE recently opened up about her sexuality on the South Korean online platform Weverse.

On screenshots posted by fans on various social media platforms, the 19-year-old singer said that she is “half fruitcake,” which fans interpreted as Lara's term for “queer.”

“I knew I was half fruitcake when I was like 8, so I really was wanting everybody,” Lara told fans. “Honestly, [probably] before 8.”

She even noted her use of the word “half fruitcake.”

“Isn't half fruitcake such a good way to explain it without saying it?” said Lara.

Lara also expressed her worries while doing the survival show The Debut: Dream Academy, which formed KATSEYE.

The singer wrote, “You know in Dream Academy, when it came out, I was really scared to be honest. I didn't know if people would accept me and I really thought it might ruin my chances of getting in.”

However, Lara said that the support from fans helped her embrace her true self.

“And then you were all so, so nice about it and gave me so much love and support, and it made me feel so confident in who I am, so I love you for that,” said Lara.

Lara also shared in a separate voice note about her struggles as a queer woman of color.

“I just remember, like, I was so scared. I'm also brown, which adds another layer to it. Like, there's so many things, you know? [...] I know I don't give that I like women; I give very straight with the way I dress, talk, and everything,” Lara told fans.

Towards the end of her voice note, Lara remained positive and said she has come to love her true self, “I was really scared and now it's like I'm so grateful that people in my life and [fans] have been so supportive because I feel so proud of it. No shame at all, and it's like, I love that part of me…”
