Get to know David Ezra, Dulce's son making his own mark

In showbiz, having a famous parent is often a great advantage. But for David Ezra, being the son of Asia's Timeless Diva, Dulce, was something he chose not to use to easily break into the entertainment industry.
At the press conference of Jeproks The Musical, David confessed he deliberately stepped out of his mother's shadow.
He recalled, “Nung nag-Conservatory ako sa UST, nag-isip na ako ng ibang course. Talagang hindi ko po gustong kumanta dati. Weird po yun kung iisipin ng iba na ang pangarap ko mula noong bata ako is kumanta.
“Kumbaga, I've been blessed enough para malagay sa posisyon na ito, e. Talagang tumutok po ako sa pagbabanda, hindi para kumanta kundi para maggitara. Pangarap ko po talagang maging rockstar parang Mike Hanopol, totoo po yun. Talagang ayaw ko pong kumanta.”
David also noted that at that time, his voice was very different from his contemporaries, affirming that he made the right decision not to become a singer.
“Yung boses ko rin kasi before, hindi ko alam kung papaano siya gagamitin. I'm a trained classical singer, so noong time na yun, ang boses ko ay baritone, very malalim. Noong time na yun, wala pang 'market' sa Pilipinas.
“So, noong college ako, I was 16 years old, hindi ko siya alam kung paano gagamitin. Kasikatan 'yan nila Jay-R, Christian Bautista, Eric Santos, so pop singers. I didn't sing that way. Now, I can sing that way. Pero noong bata po ako, hindi ako naniniwalang nakakakanta ako.”
Despite showing his strong interest in playing the guitar and being a member of a band, David's mom remained firm that he has a big potential to become a singer.
“Yun po ang paniniwala ng nanay ko all the time, 'Alam mo, anak, ang gift mo ay singing.' Totoo yung mothers know best. Kasi, hindi ako naniniwala pero siya, alam niya sa puso niya na talagang singer ako, I was born to sing.”
