Alex Eala's Madrid Open run isn't over yet.

Eala, who exited the singles draw with a Round of 64 loss, and Zeynep Sonmez are set for a tough test as they march into the Round of 16 of the Madrid Open doubles event, where a formidable second-seeded pair awaits them.

The Filipino and Turkish pair will square off against Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova on Saturday night as they look to punch a quarterfinal seat.

It will be a tall task for Eala and Sonmez as the 29-year-old Siniakova is currently the second-ranked doubles player in the WTA rankings while Townsend is at No. 5.

Together, Siniakova and Townsend had to grind out a 3-6, 6-1, 10-8 win over Lyudmyla Kichenok and Desirae Krawczyk in the Round of 32 to launch their campaign. Still, they loom as a formidable obstacle for Eala and Sonmez.

Eala and Sonmez were coming off a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win over Hao-Ching Chan and Fanny Stollar in the opening round.

The 20-year-old Eala is looking to redeem herself in the doubles stage following an early exit in the singles after bowing to Elise Mertens on Friday night.
