What do you get when you put Joey De Leon in a room with Anjo Yllana, Janno Gibbs, and a host of other comedians? You get Nuts Entertainment-- a comedy show that is in a league of its own. People who’ve seen “Nuts Entertainment” at least once will tell you that there’s nothing like it on Philippine TV. It has wacky parlor games and hilarious and often candid interviews that leave guests surprised and the audience in stitches. One of the show’s most popular segments is “Manibela,” where distinguished showbiz personalities act out a storyline based on what narrator Joey De Leon says. The outcome is often side-splitting and always unpredictable. “‘Manibela’ is nothing but… the other side of the actor,” Joey says. Although he generally has a script to follow, Joey admits, “Minsan, binabago namin.” In fact, one of the great things about the format is the actors have more freedom to play with their lines. “‘Di naman kami papayag na kung ano sinubo sa amin, lulunokin na lang,” Joey says. But as fun as “Manibela” is, it is “Balakubak” that “Nuts Entertainment” is known for. “Balakubak” or “Balita at Kwentong Bakla” is where a special guest is put on the hot seat by hosts who assume the identities of gay talk show hosts. Joey, Anjo and Janno agree that it is their favorite segment. It surprises them how guests are willing to answer questions, some of which “normal” talk shows won’t be able to get away with. Their “Bulungan” portion is especially fun. This is where the hosts whisper a question and whatever the guest’s answer becomes a secret shared only by the hosts. Joey says that so far, 100% of their guests have answered the “Bulungan” question. Don’t ask the hosts what they are, they’ve sworn not to tell. The latest segment to watch out for is “Korteng Mani.” It’s courtroom action at its funniest and most revealing as the cast of “Korteng Mani,” led by Judge de Leon, with Compañero Yllana as prosecutor and Compañero Gibbs as defense counsel, try to get to the bottom of some of today’s hottest issues like, say, whether a certain actor is a babaero or not. Like the rest of “Nuts Entertainment,” the results are often revealing and always funny. Of course, there are other favorites like “Face to Face” and “Jack ‘n Poy.” Get your weekly dose of nuttiness. Catch “Nuts Entertainment” every Wednesday during KiliTV. -- Text by Yvette U. Tan. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio. You can also get in touch with JANNO via Fanatxt.
