READ: Chot Reyes blasts FIBA after getting a hefty fine and suspension for 'inciting unsportsmanlike behavior'

Gilas Pilipinas head coach Vincent "Chot" Reyes vehemently spoke against the International Basketball Federation’s findings regarding the violent brawl between Philippines and Australia last July 2 in the World Cup 2019 Asian Qualifiers.

Based on the statement released by FIBA yesterday, July 19, Coach Reyes was sanctioned with a one game suspension and a disciplinary fine.

“Head Coach Vincent ‘Chot’ Reyes is suspended for 1 game and shall pay a disciplinary fine of CHF 10,000 for inciting unsportsmanlike behavior.”

Reyes posted on Twitter his statement about the FIBA decision and he stressed that never in his years as a coach that he would incite unsportsmanlike behavior.

“I have never given instructions to hurt nor incite unsportsmanlike behavior, and in my 20 years as Head Coach in the PBA and 7 years at the helm of Gilas. I have never been involved in any such incident.”

Still, Coach Chot would like to extend his apologies for the unfortunate incident that happened between the national team and Australia. 

“I deeply regret what happened last July 2 and again apologize together with our prayers and staff.”

“As we work to put all this behind us, we reiterate our commitment to serve our flag.”
