A New Ian de Leon

A New Ian de Leon “I want them to recognize me as an actor an individual actor,” Ian de Leon firmly states. People still know of him as the product of two local showbiz legends, the son of “the” Christopher de Leon and “the” Superstar Nora Aunor. But this young actor is determined to make a name for himself. Proof of this is the new Ian de Leon that the audience sees in Super Twins. Text by KC Abalos Time sure flies by fast. It seems only a while ago when the young Ian played kiddie roles with his famous father and mother. Then came the teenage years of love teams and That’s Entertainment. Now, he effectively plays the understanding but firm father of Zsa Zsa and Tin Tin. The two youngsters turn into superheroes, played by Jennylyn Mercado and Nadine Samonte. Is it difficult to play a father role? Ian answers, “I have done a series of father roles before but not as challenging as this one.” By challenging he means the more active role that his character will play as the story of the twins unfold. He adds, “medyo mas pabor sa akin kasi iyun na nga yung transition na gusto ko.” Ian loves his character because it is his mission to veer away from the mold of the Donna Cruz-Ian de Leon tandem, something which he feels people still fondly remember. Not to mention the references to his more popular roles in Halimaw sa Banga and Super Wan-Tu, Tri. Ian has been struggling to get out of the teenybopper roles that he has been known for, an effect of growing up within the glitzy world of show business. What can his fans expect from him? “Honestly speaking, siguro mas mature yung ginawa ko dito kasi dati teeny bopper, love team, pero ngayon serious role na. Much more challenging.” He says this with a tentative expression, different from the more casual Ian a few years back. Personal experience and challenges have certainly made this boy into a man. He even looks hotter now! Was it a conscious effort to change his image? He shares, “Actually, I didn’t consider that, kung ano yung mabibigay ko na talent ko, kung ano yung ma-exert na effort mas dun ako nag-fofocus ngayon.
