He wrote: “Two weeks ago, after going the whole month of the tournament with your Bohemians undefeated, I saw you disappointedly looking on as the 1st place medal went to your rivals.

"The final score, 1-0. I understood that it was very tough, we mostly stayed silent and just smiled at each other on the way home."

After that, Ryan went on to share more snippets of how his son handled losing in the game.

"What makes me proud, is not the fact that, you took it on the chin and went straight back to practice.

“What makes me proud, is not the fact that, you knew there were more talented boys in your team and the only way you could help them was to play harder.

“What makes me proud, is not the fact that, the night before the second leg of the games, you said 'Dad I'm gonna wear long sleeves, because it will get rough out there'. What makes me proud, is not the fact that, you listened intently to your coaches' instructions.

"What makes me proud, is not the fact that your team won the opener, 9-nil. What makes me proud, is not the fact that, you said 'Dad I didn't celebrate my first goal, because the keeper of the other team is my friend'. What makes me proud, is not the fact that, you took back your only loss, and defeated the team that took the gold medal from you, 8-0."
