The chinita charmer

Playing Lindsay in Magic Kamison, is a big break for this half-Filipino and half-Japanese lass. Portraying dual roles, she has to be versatile in her portrayal of an ugly but good Lindsay and the beautiful but nasty Laura. This show gave us a sample of what she can do as an actress. But what happens after her stint on this show is up? Text By Loretta G. Ramirez, Interview by Xylene Geecel D. Alamo. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio. “I’m a regular in Bitoy’s Funniest Videos and Nuts Entertainment. In Bitoy’s I have a segment called Just for Kikay,” says Iwa. She later adds that she will be soon seen on primetime TV but declines to divulge which show and in what role. Since she has starred in both drama and comedy shows, we were wondering which genre this young actress prefers. Without thinking, she said “I prefer comedy, kasi masayahing tao ako at saka mas madali kasi (although) mahirap magpatawa ng tao pero lumalabas yung natural ko din kasi, yung pagiging comedienne ko.” Comedy really comes naturally to Iwa, sometimes being funny without meaning to. All she has to do is open her mouth and funny things keep coming out. Just like in the press conference of Magic Kamison where she repeatedly invited the press to watch the show on QTV 11 (GMA’s sister network) instead of GMA 7. “Mahirap maging serious eh,” she confesses but she also admits that her favorite artists are all famous dramatic actresses. “Ang mga favorite ko kasing artists ay sina Sharon Cuneta, Vilma Santos, at Maricel Soriano. Ever since, kahit di pa ako artista noon, sobrang ina-idoloze ko sila kasi they are all great artists.” She admires these actresses so much that she even wants to have her own title. “Sana ako din magkaron ako ng star-star,” referring to the Star for All Season, Megastar, and Diamond Star titles of her idols. “Parang star for StarStruck,” she mischievously adds. Her carefree spirit is sometimes mistaken as being too liberal by her detractors. This may be attributed to her young age. Iwa admits that sometimes she does not feel like she is 18 but rather feel like a 16-year old teeny bopper. But regardless of her age, she is determined to stay in the business and improve on her craft. “Hanggang kaya pa, hanggang kailan pa ako gusto sa trabaho na ito, nandito lang ako,” assures Iwa. Truly, not all may appreciate her willful personality but there is no stopping Iwa’s sense of humor and naughtiness. Her youth and candor attracts mixed responses from people but we think that Iwa is like a rough gem, waiting to be shaped and set into a sparkling and glittering jewel. Let Iwa charm her way into your hearts, catch her every Wednesday on Nuts Entertainment and Saturdays on Bitoy’s Funniest Videos only on GMA 7. Feel the fun with Iwa through Fanatxt!
