Veteran actress Nova Villa rounds up her four keys to staying eternally excited her career.

For 54 years, Novelita Villanueva Gallegos, better known as Nova Villa, has graced our screens and provided laughter in our hearts as she portrays role after role in show business.

So it's no wonder that a lot of people have always sought advice from the veteran comedienne in keeping their passions alive in order to stay creatively alive in an ever-changing industry.

Today, we're rounding up her four keys to staying eternally excited about your career, no matter what industry you're in.

Work towards the dream, not the next paycheck

According to Nova, simply find the drive in your career that'll make you want to work for days on end.

She says, “You know what I've noticed sa generation na ito, mga millennials, parang lahat gustong mag-artista.

“Sabi ko, wala na bang gustong mag-aral? Very glamorous ba ang showbiz? Parang they just want to try kasi parang attractive 'yung industry, e.

“But I hope, they will last. Kasi there are some na sa umpisa lang 'yung drive and then nawawala 'yung passion for the craft at 'di mo na nakikita.

“Unlike kami na dati-dati na, kami nina Gloria Romero, andyan pa kaming mga seniors.”

Let your mind wander towards big ideas

Secondly, Nova suggests to work towards big ideas to fire up your determination. When you're truly passionate about the work you do, great ideas naturally come to you. And these ideas are often your best thoughts.

“Kailangan isipin mong mabuti at pag-aralan mo ang sarili mo,” she says.

“Ask yourself, 'Is this really what you want o na-attract ka lang? Or is there a little portion in your heart na gusto mong ilabas?' Parang ganun. Then go for it.

“The real test is if you push through with that. Kasi afterwards, maraming nawawalan, e. 'Yung passion nawawala.”

Track your progress and evaluate

How would you know if you're inching closer to your goal if you don't track your results? You can't. So, no matter what job you do, Nova recommends to track your progress and determine where you should put your focus on.

“Ako comedian, hindi ako dramatic actress.

“Pero ngayon, nagiging dramatic actress na ako, marunong na akong umiyak. Dati kasi hindi kasi sa comedy ako nag-umpisa.

“For me, napapansin ko na the listeners of Radio Veritas, tumatawag tuwing naririnig nila 'yung joke ko and they say na nakakalimutan nila 'yung sakit o problema nila.

“Mayroon rin nagsasabi sa akin na they see lahat ng shows ko na tumatakbo after 10, 20 years, pinapanood pa rin nila.

“Minsan bumibisita rin ako ng mga may sakit at sinasabi nila na nakakalimutan nila 'yung sakit nila.

“See? Lahat tayo may mission and we have to make a difference in our own ways.”

Remind yourself, “Who am I working for?”

Even the biggest dreams can fall into pieces if you keep hearing people tell you that you're heading towards the wrong direction. It's not long until you start doubting your abilities.

To keep your mind focused, ask yourself, “What am I working for?” Or more importantly, as Nova suggests, “Who am I working for?”

She says, “It is God who will tell you to become who you are. That's why you need to pray.

“Ako pinagdasal ko na gusto kong maging actress. E, anong year 'yun? 1962? Hahah!

“So, ibig sabihin kahit ako artista, I have always time to read spiritual books, attend mass, attend retreats and recollections, you know? Meron kang portion ng buhay mo para sa Diyos.

“Hindi lahat glamour, hindi lahat trabaho. So, I've learned na lahat tayo, kahit ano'ng profession, you have a mission.”

Food for thought: You don't always get what you wish for, you get what you work for.

These days, the belief is that if you follow your passion, the money will come. But, opportunities will come knocking when you do great work. So once you've got something going on, and you love doing what you do, it will lead you to better heights and you'll stay creatively driven forever.
