A man landed in the hospital after he sustained burns when a fire razed his house and one other in Barangay Bata, Bacolod City.
The other house was also owned by the family of the man, identified by authorities as Rey, 40.
He sustained injuries after he attempted to enter his home as the fire was burning more intensely.
He lived alone in the house that his father left him.
Icy Samillano, a resident of the area, said Rey almost got electrocuted when he insisted on going back into his house.
“Hinihila siya pero nagpupumiglas siya at gustong pumasok. Muntik na nga siyang makuryente,” Samillano said.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire intensified when an explosion occurred on the post of a power line.
“May pumutok kasi na kuryente. Ang ating secondary line ng utility poles ng Negros Power, dahil sa apoy, nag-open ang insulation,” said F02 Anthony Val Isansa, arson investigator of BFP Bacolod City.
Investigators are looking into information that Rey may have been dealing with something that may have affected his behavior.
He allegedly threatened those who responded to the fire and even tried to throw broken glass at them.
“Tini-threaten niya pa ang mga responder at tinangkang batuhin ng basag na bote,” Isansa said.
Damage to property is estimated at P38,000. Investigation is ongoing, as of this writing, to determine the cause of the fire.
