The City of Manila, led by Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso, has donated P2.5 million pesos to the victims of Taal Volcano eruption.

Mayor Isko shared this on his Facebook account on Thursday, January 16.

He wrote, “Donation by the City of Manila to municipalities badly affected by the eruption of the Taal Volcano: P2.5 million.

#BagongMaynila.”

The donation will benefit the the municipalities of Talisay, Taal, Agoncillo, Lemery, and Laurel in Batangas, each will receive P500,000.

The said areas are most at risk from the effects of a potential eruption, including a possible volcanic tsunami in the lake surrounding the volcano, according to PHIVOLCS.

Forty three years after its previous major explosion, Taal volcano spewed massive cloud of ash that drifted across the Southern and Northern parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila and Batanes Group of Islands in the extreme north of the country.

As of writing, Taal Volcano remains at Alert Level 4 following its phreatic eruption on January 12.
