Early morning of March 9. President Rodrigo Duterte has signed the executive order declaring a public health emergency due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak in the country. Meanwhile, the mayors in Quezon City and Marikina have also announced that there are confirmed cases of COVID-19 in their respective cities.

A quick check on the trending list of Twitter Philippines shows that the words “COVID-19”, “Marikina,” “CoronavirusOutbreak,” “Quezon City,” and “District 1” are included in the top ten spots.
The hashtag “Distrcict 1” trended when Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte announced during their flag ceremony this morning that the individual who tested positive for COVID-19 is from district 1.
Meanwhile, several netizens took to Twitter to express their concerns about the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.
