'Ang Pinaka' host Rovilson Fernandez pledges two mindful actions on Earth Day

Today, April 22 is Earth Day.

And while the coronavirus (COVID-19) has been spreading around the world and dominating headlines, the need to take climate action has remained urgent as ever.

That's why Ang Pinaka host Rovilson Fernandez is taking action by pledging two mindful steps in taking care of the planet and sharing it with his fans on Earth Day.

In a post shared by EarthDayPH, the World Wildlife Fund for Nature Philippines Ambassador argued that being mindful of food and water consumption is vital during a pandemic.

He said, “This 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, I am taking climate action by being more mindful of my food and water consumption to avoid wastage.

“Now during this current pandemic, we realize how vital food and water can be. Our planet is in crisis. We demand a new way forward.”

Furthermore, the host also celebrated the occasion on his personal Instagram by greeting “the wisest grand ol' lady [Mother Nature] a Happy Earth Day.”

He writes, “You've never looked more radiant. Thank you for nurturing us, blessing us, giving us miracles every single freakin' moment (love your sunsets, animal babies and plants growing between cracks of concrete. keep em' coming!)

“We apologize for how we've treated you and hope you understand, well, we're only human.

“I'm making a pledge to reduce my carbon footprint, spread awareness about climate change on my platform, HUG and plant more trees and reduce my plastic use. You're right----it's important to know that one person CAN make a difference! (I'm looking at you people)”

Started in 1970, Earth Day was created after an oil spill spewed on the coast of Santa Barbara, California killing more than 10,000 seabirds, dolphins, seals, and sea lions. As a reaction to this disaster, activists of more than 20 million people gathered to create environmental regulation, education and Earth Day.

50 years later, the United Nations recognized that the coronavirus pandemic is a stark reminder of the vulnerability of humans and the planet in the face of global-scale threats.

In his speech to the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres noted, “Had we been further advanced in meeting the Sustainable Development Goal and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, we could better face this challenge.”
