Bretman Rock calls out influencers prioritizing brand deals instead of spreading awareness

By Maine Aquino

Bretman Rock is calling out his fellow influencers who are not using their platforms in important issues.

According to the Filipino YouTuber, he wanted to address this as influencers are quiet lately.

"As an influencer, I do feel the need to say this.

"Some people have just been too quiet lately and not using their voice. Yes retweeting things is cute and all but that is not using your voice. That is not using your influence.

"People need to hear your voice to really know."

According to Bretman, the Black Lives Matter campaign made him discuss the role of an influencer.

Black Lives Matter is an international human rights movement that aims to end violence and racism towards black people. There is currently an ongoing protest which started after the death of George Floyd.

Bretman revealed the excuses that he heard from influencers are lame.

"The excuses that I have been seeing [are] lame. You don't want to talk about Black Lives Matter because you're afraid of losing brand deals? You're worried about ******* money, *****? Right now? What?"

The Hawaii-based Filipino Youtube sensation added, "I don't even know any brand that would pull the plug on brand deals if you talk about things like this."

He clarified that he just wants to speak about things truthfully.

"I do not want this to be fed by anger, I just really want to speak by the heart. But people are not talking about it for their own self-benefit. That is not an influencer to me. "
