Therese Malvar shares ways to cope with stress and anxiety

By Cherry Sun

Along with taking care of our physical fitness to guard against COVID-19 is the equally important act of looking after our mental health.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recognizes that “pandemics are stressful” and the organization has actually published a list suggesting how we can take care of our mental health.

In an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com, Kapuso actress Therese Malvar echoes a few of the healthy practices CDC advocates, which she personally finds effective.

1. Eat

Therese reminds us to fuel our body and she emphasizes not to feel guilty to indulge yourself once in a while.

She says, “Eat your comfort food, ganyan, anything that gives you comfort, or just eat in general.”

2. Read

Therese knows that hearing about the crisis can be upsetting, and so she recommends to take a break by reading.

“Read anything positive or read any books. For me, it slows downtime and it slows down my stress, or it lets it go away,” she claims.

3. Receive the word of God.

For the young Kapuso star, her faith also helps keep her together. Thus, she suggests other people to take some time to receive the word of God.

She stresses, “Read the word of the God, may it be the gospel or any Bible quote or Bible verse that will help you calm down. There is no better advice than the advice of His.”

4. Play games.

Therese also suggests making time to unwind.

She suggests, “Kahit simpleng game man, kahit sobrang bilis na game or kahit sobang bigat na game. Any game [for you] to have fun, and to de-stress yourself, and to let you enjoy your day.”

5. Binge-watch.

As a K-drama fan, Therese exactly knows how exposing yourself to good content may help reduce the negativity in your life.

She says, “Watch movies or dramas, or any positive video 'cause I think it will change your mindset or it will let you focus more on your happy thoughts, your happy emotions.”
