The Spirit of the Rose is a 14.83-carat stone that was cut from the largest pink crystal ever unearthed in Russia, which weighed 27.85 carats.

It was discovered from a mine in northeast Russia back in 2017 by the mining company Alrosa, and was named after the acclaimed 1911 Russian ballet titled "Le Spectre de la rose.”

The Spirit of the Rose is also dubbed as the world's largest vivid purple-pink diamond.

According to Gary Schuler, chairman of Sotheby's jewelry division, The Spirit of the Rose has been graded as a "Fancy Vivid Purple-Pink, Internally Flawless, Type IIa diamond," which owes its rarity to its size and color.

In a press statement Schuler said, “Only 1% of all pink diamonds are larger than 10 carats and only 4% of all pink diamonds are graded 'Fancy Vivid' and display a rich, vivid color.

“Having the opportunity to offer a large polished pink diamond ... with the richness of color and purity of The Spirit of the Rose is therefore truly exceptional."

It reportedly took a year to cut and polish the oval-shaped purple-pink diamond, which will be exhibited in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taipei, before being flown to Geneva, Switzerland.

Sotheby's sale in Geneva on November 11 is aptly titled "Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels.” It will auction The Spirit of the Rose, along with 25 other precious lots.
