Razzie Awards unveils its list of nominees for 2021
It's currently the awards season and it's time once again to recognize the exceptional performances of thespians, as well as the creatives who work behind the scenes in producing our well-loved movies and TV series. However, among all the award-giving bodies, there's one that truly stands out, the Golden Raspberry Awards or the Razzies.
The Golden Globe Awards had kickstarted the awards season in Hollywood, although it was held a bit later than usual.
It was staged with a mix of on-site and virtual appearances of hosts, presenters, and awardees.
Some of the big winners in this year's Golden Globe Awards were Sacha Baron Cohen, Rosamund Pike, Mark Ruffalo, and Anya Taylor-Joy of Queen's Gambit, who definitely slayed in her emerald Christian Dior dress.
And while winning a Golden Globe award is definitely an honor for any actor or TV and movie production professional, sadly the same cannot be said about winning the Razzies.
This is because the Golden Raspberry Awards or Razzie Awards is actually a parody awards show, “honoring” actors and film and TV industry creatives who the award giving body considers having rendered lackluster performances for the year.
And believe it or not, as what the Razzies said, there are “winners willing to own their bad” and accept their Razzie awards.
Some Hollywood stars who previously accepted their Razzie awards were Halle Berry, Sandra Bullock, Tom Green, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Last year, on March 17, 2020, right around the time the pandemic began, the Razzies was held virtually and was called the "40th Razzie Awards: Lockdown Edition."
Recently, the Razzie Awards unveiled its nominees for this year and called it giving the people “a whiff of what else went wrong while the planet was on lockdown.”
Ironically, some of the Golden Globe nominees were also nominated for a Razzie award this year such as Glenn Close for her supporting role in the movie Hillbilly Elegy and Kate Hudson for her starring role in the film Music.
