J-Rod no more: Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez announce breakup

Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have officially called it quits. The power couple announced their split in a joint statement to NBC's Today Show on April 15, one month after denying breakup rumors and saying they were “working through some things.”

The reason cited for their breakup is that the couple “realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so."

J.Lo and A-Rod also said, "We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects.

“We wish the best for each other and one another's children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support."

Jennifer shares twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony, while Alex shares daughters Natasha and Ella with ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis.

Jennifer and Alex began dating in March 2017, more than a decade after they first met.

The couple got engaged in March 2019 during a vacation at the Bahamas and had to postpone their wedding when the pandemic struck.

Had their wedding pushed through, it would have been J. Lo's fourth marriage and Alex's second one.

The “Love Don't Cost a Thing” singer was previously married to Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998, Fil-Am choreographer and actor Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003, and singer Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2014.

Before rumors of the couple's breakup started surfacing, there were allegations that the former New York Yankees player may have cheated on J. Lo.

The cheating rumors began when “Southern Charm” star Madison LeCroy was accused of having an affair with a major league baseball player during their reunion episode.

People then began speculating that it was Alex Rodriguez whom Madison LeCroy had an affair with.

However, Madison denied the cheating allegations and said in a statement to Page Six that Alex “never physically cheated on his fiancée with me.”

It's unclear whether these cheating rumors were also part of the reasons why J. Lo and A-Rod broke up, but just a week after they first denied rumors of their split in March, the couple were spotted kissing in the Dominican Republic.

That's why the announcement of their breakup comes as a shock because fans were really hoping they'd work things out and eventually tie the knot.
