Republic Wakepark in Nuvali closes permanently

By Racquel Quieta

Wakeboarding has become a popular water sport in the Philippines over the last few years.

Several wakeparks have popped up all over the country, such as in Pampanga, Batangas, and Camarines Sur, and among the most popular ones is the Republic Wakepark in Nuvali in Calamba, Laguna.

Unfortunately, it has also joined the long list of businesses that closed in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, as it announced its permanent closure on Monday, April 19.

Part of their announcement reads, “To our Republic Wakepark family, it is with deepest regret that we inform you that Republic Wakepark will be closing its doors permanently due to unfavorable business climate and pandemic effective April 30, 2021.”

The famous wakepark also thanked the riders who patronized them during their nine years in business.

“The past [nine] years has been an amazing ride with you all. We thank you all for your love, loyalty and support.

“We are firm believers that God doesn't close one door without getting ready to open another with bigger and greater things to come.

“So see you on our next ride and adventure!

“We wish everyone's safety and protection.

“God bless us all!”

Republic Wakepark was established in 2012 and prides itself of being “the most innovative wakepark in the world.”

The wakepark has two wakeboard lakes and used cables instead of boats.

They offered beginner classes and ramps for experts.

Republic Wakepark became a famous wakeboarding spot after its opening in 2012 due to its proximity to the country's capital, Manila and to the popular tourist destination, Tagaytay.

Among its famous patrons is actor Daniel Matsunaga, who expressed his sadness over its permanent closure on Instagram

Daniel shared a series of photos and videos of his memories at the wakepark.

He captioned it, “Today is a really sad day knowing that this amazing place is closing...had such a great time there and the best memories!

“Thank you so much @republicwakepark for giving me and my friends so much fun!

“We miss [you] already! #riprepulicwakepark”
