Trans Pinay Kataluna Enriquez wins Miss Nevada 2021
Pride Month is almost over but the victory for the Filipino LGBTQIA+ community continues, especially today, June 28 (Philippine time), after trans Pinay Kataluna Enriquez was crowned as Miss Nevada 2021.
The gorgeous 27-year-old trans Pinay beauty queen beat 21 other candidates and will represent the state of Nevada in the upcoming Miss USA pageant, which will be held in November 29.
Hours before the finals, Kataluna shared a photo of her wearing a stunning rainbow-themed gown that she made herself and dedicated it to her fellow LGBTQ+ members.
She captioned it: “Prelims done, and Finals in a few hours.
Gown made by me @katalunakouture. In honor of pride month, and all of those who don't get a chance to spread their colors. ❤️🧡💛💚💙”
This is not the first time that Kataluna won a beauty pageant title.
The Fil-Am fashion designer also won Miss Silver State USA, which is the biggest preliminary competition for the Miss Nevada USA pageant.
Kataluna's recent wins are monumental for a number of reasons.
She is the first openly transgender woman to compete and win in both the Miss Silver State USA and Miss Nevada USA pageants.
And she just made history as the first trans woman who will compete in the Miss USA pageant.
Kataluna's trans Pinay sister and Miss Trans Global 2020, Mela Habijan, celebrated this historic win on Instagram by sharing a photo of our new queen.
Mela's caption reads: “Our trans Pinay sister, Kataluna Enriquez, made history today! She won Miss Nevada 2021.
“She will be the first trans woman to compete at the Miss USA Pageant! Yaaaaassss! Mabuhay ka, Sis @mskataluna ! 👸🏾🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈🇵🇭❤️”
If Kataluna wins the Miss USA 2021 title, she will become the second openly transgender contestant to vie for the Miss Universe crown.
The first one was Angela Ponce who represented Spain in the Miss Universe 2018 pageant.
