Andre Paras

Is the former 'Game of the Gens' host paying homage to his dad's basketball legacy?

From number one to 14.

Kapuso host Andre Paras is reportedly changing his jersey number for the upcoming season of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

The 6-foot-4 forward was drafted in the third round by Blackwater in the PBA rookie draft held in March this year.

Sports website Spin reported the number change after seeing the opening day team roster list furnished by the league on Tuesday (December 7).

Andre will now don the same jersey number used by his father, Benjie Paras, throughout his illustrious basketball career.

Benjie was the only PBA player to win both the Most Valuable Award (MVP) and Rookie of the Year during his maiden year in the league in 1989.

Nicknamed “Tower of Power,” Benjie wrapped up his impressive career in 2003 with four championships, two MVP awards, five Mythical First Team selections, and ten All-Star appearances.

Benjie was also named as among the PBA's Greatest Players of All Time in 2000.

For Andre, getting into the PBA was a longtime dream that he expressed willingness to drop showbiz to focus on basketball.

Andre appeared in several GMA shows including That's My Amboy, Sirkus, Descendants of the Sun PH, The Clash, and Game of the Gens, before being drafted in the PBA.

He played limited minutes in his first season in the league, appearing in ten games for Blackwater Bossing while donning jersey number one.
