Jose Sarasola on taking criticism as a chef: 'It's part of growth'

By Beatrice Pinlac

Jose Sarasola stressed the importance of taking constructive criticism as a chef, noting that it helps improve one's culinary craft.

“Criticism…it's part of growth as a chef. There's no perfect recipe. There's no perfect dish. People will always comment on anything anybody cooks…For me, when somebody gives me criticism, I take it in a positive way,” he said in an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com.

While others take offense from receiving criticism about their dish, the celebrity chef remains open to any kind of feedback since he believes it to be “the only way you'll improve your dish and yourself.”

Asked about who he dreams to learn from in the kitchen, Jose mentioned Kusina Master Boy Logro who played an important role in keeping his culinary passion alive.

He recalled, “I've known Chef Boy before I moved pa to GMA. He's just an amazing person, not just sa cooking style niya, but [he's also] a pure, funny, and thoughtful person…When I met him, he gave me advice about cooking and I really appreciated that kahit hindi pa kami gaano ka-close at that time. He was saying, 'Practice your profession. Love your passion and eventually, you'll get there.' So I really took those words to heart.”

Jose was officially welcomed to Sparkle GMA Artist Center in June of 2020. He referred to his move to the Kapuso Network as a “blessing,” especially since he was trusted with three seasons of his weekly cooking show, Eat Well, Live Well. Stay Well, alongside his co-host Iya Villania.

“I'm enjoying 'yong show namin ni Iya. Season three na rin so sobrang thankful and blessed din ako…I mean, having one or two seasons, sobrang nakatataba na ng puso but to have a third season, sobrang big deal and super thankful ako doon,” he said.

Outside of his endeavors in the entertainment industry, the Kapuso star also manages his own restaurant bar in BF Homes, Parañaque City.
