Cherie Gil reveals bald look for magazine cover on Instagram

By Ron Lim

Multi-awarded actress Cherie Gil popped a surprise on everyone after she revealed a bald look for the cover of lifestyle magazine Mega on her Instagram account.

In the only post on what Cherie calls her “new” Instagram account, Cherie put up the latest cover for Mega magazine, which shows her standing by a window with her hand on her bald head. The text on the cover reads “Cherie Gil cuts loose & starts anew.”

In the caption to the post, Cherie said that she didn't think that the shoot would actually happen as she is in New York City at the moment. However, she revealed that the magazine organized a team to shoot all the way in New York City.

Cherie described the shoot as “truly special,” noting that it is also a fundraiser “for a good cause.”

The Instagram account for Mega magazine posted the same picture and mentioned in the caption that Cherie “shakes off her iconic villainess persona to start a new chapter of hope and positivity.” The magazine also wrote that the article on the actress will cover her “acting legacy to finding possibilities in the great unknown.”

As any person familiar with Philippine pop culture knows, Cherie Gil is known for playing iconic villains, with her line “You're nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!" as Lavinia Arguelles is still familiar today.

New generations of stars have expressed their wish to be at the receiving end of her “evil,” such as Ysabel Ortega who said it would be a milestone of her career if she were to be slapped by the acclaimed actress.

Barbie Forteza, who once attended an acting class delivered by Cherie Gil and worked alongside her in The Half Sisters, described Cherie as “very inspiring” and “does not judge.”
