Kristoffer Martin opens up about his love story with Joyce Ching

Kapuso actor Kristoffer Martin has a lot to be thankful for. He is one of the leads in top-rating GMA Afternoon Prime series, Kakambal ni Eliana. The promising star has also been recognized for his multi award-winning performance in the film, Oros. His secret weapon comes in the form of girlfriend Joyce Ching, who inspires him to achieve his goals.
At the Anna Karenina live chat last July 16, Kristoffer came to support Joyce, who plays Nina in the drama series. GMANetwork.com caught up with the talented actor for an exclusive interview, except the supposed interview turned into a sharing session.
As though talking to a friend, the teen actor described his relationship with Joyce Ching as “Masaya, kasi ang tingin ko sa kanya parang best friend. Hindi ako natatakot mag-share. Siguro lahat ng sikreto ko sa buhay alam na niya. ‘Pag sobrang down ako, sa kanya ako kumakapit. Hindi lang girlfriend ang tingin ko sa kanya. All in all, parang siya na.”
Just how did the two teen stars’ romance blossom? Kristoffer looked back at their first meeting in the set of Endless Love. Ironically, it was not love at first sight for the cute couple. “Unang kita ko sa kanya, sobrang maldita ‘yung first impression ko sa kanya. Tapos sabi niya, suplado daw ako, ‘di daw ako namamansin,” recalled Kristoffer.
It all started with a random act of kindness. Kristoffer shared, “Na-build 'yung feelings ko sa kanya nung binasahan niya ako ng verse ng Bible. ‘Yun, ‘dun ako tinamaan. Parang naisip ko, pinadala ka ba ng Diyos sa akin? Anghel ka ba? ”
Though both of them were only in high school then, Kristoffer knew that his feelings for Joyce are much too strong to ignore. What happened when Kristoffer asked Joyce if he could court her? “Hala, sabi niya hindi puwede! Pero hindi kasi ako madaling mag give up. So go lang ng go, tapos nung January 24, siguro 4-5 months din akong nanligaw, ‘yun na, sumagot na.”
It seems that even the fans fell in love with their story. According to Kristoffer, “Hanggang ngayon, kahit pinaghiwalay na kami sa projects, yung KrisJoy fans, nandiyan pa rin. Hindi sila lumiliit, hindi sila nawawala, lumalaki sila. Every 24th [of the month], lagi kami nagtre-trend eh. Nagpapasalamat kami dahil ang tiyaga tiyaga niyong lahat.”
Speaking of projects together with Joyce, Kristoffer expressed his outmost desire in working on a romantic comedy with his girlfriend. He explained, “Kasi ang tagal na naming hindi nagsama, at kami ni Joyce, parang masyado nang nabababad sa drama. So okay ‘yun para mabigyan namin ng bagong atake, siguro mabibigyan namin ng justice ‘yun.”
The KrisJoy relationship appears perfect and ideal, but like any other couple, they have had their share of arguments and misunderstandings. When this happens, how do they cope? “Mature kasi kami mag-isip parehas, eh. Space lang, tapos pag malamig, dun na kami babalik sa isa’t isa. ‘Yun ‘yung maganda sa amin. Iniisip ko kung anong mas makakabuti sa kanya, at siya din ganoon sa akin, so balanced kami, give-and-take,” stated Kristoffer.
