Ruru Madrid, a cutie with an advocacy

Sunday All Stars and Dormitoryo, and daily in the GMA Telebabad series, Akin Pa Rin Ang Bukas. When he is not in front of the camera, he keeps busy with doing things for a good cause.

The mestizo heartthrob has been in the industry for about a year, getting his first taste of showbiz from Protégé. He considers his experience in the reality talent search as his most memorable to date.

He shares, “Hindi ko po makakalimutan ang Protégé po kasi doon ko po mas nakilala ‘yung sarili ko at ‘yung mga pangarap kong makasama at mga artistang nakikita ko, nakasama ko sila.”

Ruru finished as a runner-up in Protégé and since then, he has starred in GMA Primetime series, Paroa alongside Barbie Forteza, and in the film My Lady Boss with Marian Rivera and Richard Gutierrez. He has also tapped into the independent film scene, leading the cast in films like Above the Clouds and the Maryo J. Delos Reyes film, Bamboo Flowers.

Ruru is only 15 years old, yet he has already achieved all of these. It is no surprise that he was one of the recipients of the German Moreno Youth Achievement Award during the 61st FAMAS Awards. Recently, he also won the Best New TV Personality award at the PMPC Star Awards 2013.

Despite all these accolades, Ruru remains humble. He considers himself to be just like any ordinary teenager. He attends a regular school and his hobbies are as normal as can be.

“Kapag po walang taping, siguro PS3 lang and basketball. MVP ako sa school namin noong bata pa ako at wala pa yatang nakakatalo sa akin sa NBA 2K13,” says Ruru.

His other interests may not be that common, but are really inspiring. In fact, he could be a role model for other teenagers.

Ruru mentions that he has an environmental advocacy. He states, “Simpleng bagay lang naman ang ginagawa ko, katulad ng pagmamahal sa mother nature. Nagsesegregate ako ng mga basura. Iniiwasan ko ring magkalat.”

He is also into charitable activities. Right now, what does he do to help out?

“Sa nangyayari ngayon after Yolanda, marami na rin akong napupuntahang mga benefit concert and shows. Lagi akong pumupunta sa ganun kahit hindi ganoon katas ‘yung TF (talent fee), basta makatulong,” replies Ruru.

He adds, “Sana magkaisa tayong lahat. Sana ‘yung mga nasalanta, makabangon at sana positive lang lagi ang isipin nila. Sana rin huwag mabago ‘yung pananampalataya nila sa Diyos.”
