There is less than a week left until the coronation night of Miss Grand International on October 25, and Binibining Pilipinas Grand International Roberta Tamondong is giving her Instagram followers a look at the national costume she intends to showcase at the competition later today.
In two posts on her Instagram account, Roberta posted a short video as well as a photo of her wearing a headpiece made up of pearls. In the caption for the video, Roberta expressed her wish to be like Pura Villanueva Kalaw, the country's first “beauty queen” after being named “Queen of the Orient” in 1908 at the first ever Manila Carnival.
Roberta also called on Filipinos to watch the Miss Grand International national costume competition tonight, 7 p.m. Philippine time, on the pageant's YouTube channel.
Roberta recently shared that she had finished the pageant's closed door interviews, calling it an “experience to cherish” and expressed her joy at being part of “something Grand.”
The Miss Grand International coronation is the final international pageant that Filipino queens will be participating in this month. Back in October 14 (October 15 Manila time), Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental Gabrielle Basiano finished her run in the Top 20, while Binibining Pilipinas Globe Chelsea Fernandez ended her journey in the Top 15.
In November, Herlene Budol will be competing in Miss Planet International. In December, Binibining Pilipinas International Hannah Arnold will compete in the Miss International pageant in Japan.
Roberta is aiming to perform better than 2021 Miss Grand International Samantha Panlilio, who failed to make it into the pageant's top 20 last year. Should Roberta perform better than Samantha Bernardo, who finished first runner-up during the 2020 Miss Grand International, she would be the first Filipina to win the crown.
