Kara David proves that relationship with a seaman can actually work

By Kristian Eric Javier

Filipinos has this popular joke about seafarers being a “seaman-loloko," which means there's a high possibility that they will cheat on their girl because of their long-distance relationship.

So, for those who are in a relationship with a seaman, Kara David gives a sound advice to avoid being worried when their man is on board: “to be secure in the relationship.”

“You have to be secure in the love of your husband and you have to be secure in your capabilities as a person,” Kara said in her interview on the Updated with Nelson Canlas podcast.

Charot!”

Kara revealed that being in a long-distance relationship with her husband, LM Cancio, actually works for them because it always felt new to them.

When asked how they deal with their daily communication, Kara said that LM calls her whenever the ship docks at the port.

So, hihintayin mo na lang yung dalawang araw na yon,” she said.

She added, “Pero every day naman, the rest of the days dumadaong naman sa port yung barko, so pagbaba niya ng port hahanap lang siya ng libreng wifi.”

Kara revealed, however, that one of the challenges they face is the time difference between the Philippines and wherever the ship is docked.

'Tapos, yun 'yong time na dumaong yung barko, yung ganun,” she shared.

Despite this, Kara said she's okay with their setup.

She also noted, “Alam mo yung mga LDR hindi siya nagwowork kapag masiyado kang insecure doon sa relationship ninyo."

She also advised seafarers or in a relationship with a seaman to not do anything that will make their partner jealous.

“Sobrang secured ako in my relationship with LM. So, kahit pa nasa barko 'yan, kahit pa seaman siya, yung sinasabi nilang 'seaman-loloko,' mga ganiyan, alam ko na exception to the rule yung asawa ko, kasi unang-una, secure ako sa relationship namin,” she said.

She then shared what veteran news anchor and reporter Mel Tiangco said, “'Di ba, sabi ni Tita Mel, much as we like the movie Jerry Maguire, hindi tayo dapat nagsu-subscribe doon sa linya na, 'You complete me.' Kasi you complete you, you complete yourself. And when you're completed lalo kang mage-exude ng beauty at lalo kang mamahalin,” she added.
