Five weeks after they confirmed their relationship, aespa's leader Karina and K-drama actor Lee Jae-wook broke up according to a report by Korean news outlet TenAsia this April 2.

While there are no official statements from their entertainment agencies yet, sources confirmed their breakup through separate statements.

A source from Lee Jae-wook's entertainment label, C-JeS studios, said that the actor decided to put a halt in the relationship to focus on his current projects.

They said: “Lee Jae Wook decided on the breakup in order to focus on the project he is currently filming. The two decided to remain as colleagues who support each other.” They continued, “They will each greet [fans] through good activities from their respective positions going forward. Please show lots of warm interest and support.”

Meanwhile, another source from Karina's entertainment agency, SM Entertainment, also confirmed the news and said: “It is true [that] they broke up.”

News about Karina and Lee Jae-wook's relationship was first revealed in an exclusive report by Dispatch last February 27.

Their agencies confirmed the reports shortly after, and said they "are getting to know each other.”

According to Dispatch, their connections sparked after they attended the Prada Fashion Show during the Milan Fashion Week last January 14 where they were also seen sharing a seat and taking cute pictures that the fans loved.

In line with the dating reports, Karina also penned a heartfelt apology letter to fans last March 6 where she said, “I know very well how disappointed the MYs who have supported me up until now must be, and I also know that they are feeling upset while thinking back on the things we've said to one another. I feel even more sorry because I, too, understand those feelings all too well.”

Despite the news, the two remained active on their social media accounts. Fans of aespa, commonly known as MYs, also sent their messages of support to the K-pop idol.

A fan said, “Karina, you're [going to] be okay, girly!”

They also addressed the dating culture in K-pop and added, “The next time you are dating someone, you are not posting an apology.”

Karina is the leader of SM Entertainment's girl group aespa. They recently performed at the K-pop Convention (KCON) in Hong Kong held last March 30 and 31.

On the other hand, Lee Jae-wook is a known Korean drama actor and has an ongoing project under Disney+, The Impossible Heir, and releases new episodes every Wednesday.
