Heart Evangelista, Chiz Escudero talk about LDR and running for president in new video

By Cara Emmeline Garcia

Heart Evangelista and husband Sorsogon governor Chiz Escudero had once again graced YouTube for another video of “Adulting with Chiz” -- a popular segment in the former's channel.

In the new upload, the husband and wife talk about dealing with long-distance relationships and holding on to brand new hopes for 2021.

Heart openly spoke about how she and Chiz deal with the new setup of their relationship, given that she's staying in Manila while the latter stays in Sorsogon to serve his constituents.

At the time of the video recording, the couple hasn't seen each other in over a month.

“A lot of people are dealing with long-distance relationships, and that's exactly what's been happening to our lives now,” she confessed.

“But I love it that, you know, parang it's always brand new. Pero minsan, nalulungkot at nalulumbay [ako].”

Chiz replied, “Mas masuwerte na nga tayo ngayon kasi 'yung unang girlfriend ko LDR kami when I studied in the States.

“[Noon] walang e-mail, walang cellphone, walang libreng apps like Viber or WhatsApp, at dalawang paraan lang para mag-communicate. Either snail mail na ipapadala mo tapos two weeks bago [niya] matanggap so susulat ka araw-araw para araw-araw may matanggap siya o long distance phone call na sobrang mahal.

“So, mas maraming oportunidad to get in touch kasi ngayon mayroon pang video call. Noon walang ganon.”

Turning serious, Chiz advised couples who are geographically separated from one another to become each other's confidantes at the time of the pandemic.

“This too shall come to pass. Sooner than later,” the governor reminded.

“It's just a matter of holding on to each other during this time. Hindi naman siguro dahilan porket may COVID magbe-break kayo dahil hindi kayo nagkikita ng isa, dalawang buwan, o kaya naman isang taon. Ibig sabihin nun mababaw at hindi naka-ugat kung anong meron kayo.”

Heart added, “Your understanding of each other's profession, am I right? I totally get it. No, I really do.

“Kasi, when you're a governor, you're like a president of your own little country, and it's intense, guys. I thought being a governor would be less than being a senator, but it's a different story. But I do appreciate everything you do.”

Chiz Escudero for President in 2022?

In the latter part of the video, Heart lightly touched base on politics and asked if her better half has plans of running for president in the coming elections.

The 51-year-old politician assured her, “No. I have no plans of doing so. [I have] no money, no resources, not my time, and I am happy where I am.

“You have to want it. And those who are running and saying they don't want it, it's not accurate. You have to want it before you can actually decide to run, run a campaign, and be the president, the governor, congressman, or senator. It is, and it will, so you have to want it first. Right now, I am happy where I am.”

He affirmed, “If I do run, I have three choices in 2022. Either I run for governor again, not run, or run for the senate if I have the numbers. Or simply naka-rely lang ako sa'yo.”

The Queen of Creative Collaborations then asked her husband what was his reason for running for Vice President in 2016, to which he later conceded to incumbent VP Leni Robredo.

“I guess for two reasons: I wanted something to offer myself, and I wanted to get it over with,” he admitted.

“Wala nang what-ifs. And at the same time, I felt like I had something unique and different [to offer].”

He said, “I ran in seven elections and won in all six except for one and sa lahat ng election ko, hindi ko ipinagdasal na manalo ako.

“Marami akong hinihingi sa Diyos at marami akong pinagdarasal, pero hindi iyon ang ipinagdadasal ko mula ng simula-- na manalo ako sa eleksyon.

“I always pray in relation to elections I'm running for and for His will to be done. Mahirap namang humiling ng makakasama sa sarili mo, sa pamilya mo, sa bansa, o sa lahat ng tao. It's easier to accept because you didn't ask for it. It's also easier to embrace and be more confident because you would know if it happened, in accordance with your prayer, it's in His accordance as well.”
