Mav Gonzales on being single on Valentine's Day: “…you know it's okay to be single kahit nasa ganitong edad ka na and it's okay na nagde-date 'yung mga tao sa Valentine's Day tapos ikaw nasa bahay lang.”

On Record host Mav Gonzales has always been mum about her personal life, but for years now, she's given us a few hints about her love life through her funny and relatable social media posts.

Since Valentine's Day is just around the corner, GMA Lifestyle decided to ask the Kapuso reporter and host about her love life, from whether she's had celebrity suitors, who her crush is, to what she's looking for in a partner.

So, if you've had the biggest crush on Mav for so long, here's your chance to get to know the On Record host more. Read on and discover new things about Mav when it comes to love and relationships.

Her relationship status

Obviously, the first order of business was to confirm whether Mav is single at the moment.

To which the Kapuso host replied, “Single for many years already. But I do go out on dates!”

Mav has never been afraid or ashamed to remain single until she finds her Mr. Right. In fact, she became a trending topic in 2019 after posting a photo on Instagram ang captioning it. “Mabuti nang wala kesa mali.”

Mav recounted this experience during the press con for On Record.

She said, “For some reason, ang dami yatang naka-relate. Sobrang daming nag-share na umabot pa sa point na nagkaroon ako ng web show dahil dun, 'yung 'Tita Mav Knows'.

Mav also shared what positive thing was born out of this moment when she became a trending topic.

“It paved the way na makapagbigay din ako ng advice sa mga kapwa ko millennial, sa mga kagaya kong single professionals na--you know it's okay to be single kahit nasa ganitong edad ka na and it's okay na nagde-date 'yung mga tao sa Valentine's Day tapos ikaw nasa bahay lang. Darating din 'yan. Kaya ano just be patient, just wait for it.

“The same way na, ito nga kinukuwento ko sa On Record na I didn't expect it, it just happened. It can happen to your love story as well.”

Setting the record straight

After giving advice for fellow single professionals like herself, Mav also shared how she finds it puzzling that whenever she poses for a photo with a guy, people always assume that that guy is her boyfriend.

“Dahil nga alam ng mga tao na single ako. Kapag may pinopost akong lalaki sa social media, ''Yan na ba?!' ganyan lagi 'yung comment. 'Boyfriend mo po?' ganyan gayan.

She also said that someone even mistook her On Record co-host Oscar Oida as her “love team.”

“Ito na nga po. Pinost ko si Kuya Oscar, 'di ba? May nagtanong na 'Kayo na po ba 'yung bagong love team?'”

So, once and for all, Mav sets the record straight about the guys that people see on her social media posts.

“Gusto ko lang pong sabihin sa inyo na kung totoong boyfriend ko na 'yon, hindi ko siya ipo-post sa social media. Kaya lahat ng nakikita n'yo sa social media ko, sure kayo na hindi 'yon 'yon.”

Crushes and suitors

We also asked Mav whether she's ever had a celebrity suitor.

She answered, “Yes. Let's leave it at that. :D”

Although Mav refused to give more details on her celebrity suitor/s, she was generous enough to talk about her celebrity crush.

“I have too many celebrity crushes at sobrang iba-iba sila kasi wala akong one guy type. But most recent would have to be Jin from BTS! Benta sa'kin yung tito jokes niya. haha!”

Reflections on love and relationships

Mav also shared some of the things that she'll do and won't do for love. According to Mav, her number one non-negotiable is definitely her faith in God.

“(I'll never) Give up my faith. No man can ever give me what Jesus did, so if you can't handle that, then we're not a good match.”

She also disclosed what she'd be willing to do to be with that special person who makes her heart beat a little faster.

“Probably relocate? I'm a very rational person so if that's the only option, then I might just go for it.”

Finally, Mav revealed what she's looking for in a boyfriend or future husband.

“I always say funny is forever. 'Pag matanda na kayo, 'yan ang magpapasaya sa inyo. Dapat same wavelength, meaning kaya ko siya kausapin about anything.

“He doesn't necessarily have to be into my interest, but he should be open to them at least.

“And most important to me now that I'm older, dapat consistent, loyal at understanding sa schedule ang partner.”
