BTS member Jin has officially turned 28 today, December 4.
To mark the special occasion, Jin came bearing gifts for his fans by releasing a solo track titled “Abyss.”
As released on BTS's official SoundCloud and YouTube platforms, the track is a soft ballad that ponders on inner demons and inconsolable anxiety.
As translated by Wisha (a.k.a. Do You Bangtan), the lyrics go: “Holding my breath, into my sea do I go / I meet myself, lovely though crying / To myself, in that darkness / I want to seek him out and speak these words / That today, I want to know you more.”

Jin also penned a letter to his fans alongside the track release, which was posted in Big Hit Entertainment's blog.
In it, the oldest BTS member recalls the feeling of burnout, some incited by the group's historic number ones on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
He said, “To be honest, I recently felt really burnt out. I think it was because I had a lot of thoughts about myself.
“Many people congratulated me after reaching No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100, but I wondered if it's really okay for me to receive something like that.
“There are honestly a lot of people who love music more than me and are better at music than me, so is it okay for me to be feeling this happiness and being congratulated like this…”
Jin cited speaking with Big Hit Entertainment founder Bang Si-hyuk, who offered him a piece of advice: express his feelings through music.
“I received counseling over that, and after a while, I spoke with Bang PD. He asked what I thought about possibly writing these feelings in a song.
“I responded that I didn't feel confident that I could make one well and was worried that the result might not be good.
“He replied, 'That sort of thing isn't important. But if you do it, then you'll definitely do well.'”
Through Bang Si-hyuk's connection, he was linked up with producer BUMZU (real name Kye Bum-ju) to produce the well-written track.
Jin even cited, “We spoke about many things in such a way, and he was able to make a track that expressed my feelings as they were in that very place, and by using this as a vehicle to write about the things I wanted to say, 'Abyss' was finished.”
“It's a sort of depressing song that doesn't befit a birthday, but I thought it would be more awkward to release it on a day that wasn't my birthday, so I have indeed released 'Abyss,'” he ended the letter and thanked BUMZU and BTS's leader RM for their contribution in his song.
