5 cool and unconventional things we loved in Glaiza De Castro's micro wedding

By Jansen Ramos

Glaiza De Castro surprised her fans after revealing that she has already been married to her Irish boyfriend, David Rainey, since October 2021.

It was only last February 13, just a day before Valentine's Day, when she and her now-husband shared the exciting news in an episode of Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho.

Glaiza and David tied the knot in a beautiful outdoor ceremony on a coastal cliff in Northern Ireland overlooking the famous Dunluce Castle and the Atlantic Ocean.

In an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com for its cover story Kapuso Profiles, Glaiza talked about the challenges she and David encountered during their wedding planning, citing their physical distance and the constantly changing travel restrictions brought about by COVID-19.

Despite these challenges, Glaiza and David survived it all and successfully had their dream coastal wedding, masterfully planned on their own terms.

Here are some of the unique yet practical wedding ideas bride-to-bes can take inspiration from the couple's micro wedding.

Some say, grooms are the ones who must shoulder the wedding expenses or make the most of the effort, if not all.

But Glaiza changed this notion as she braved the long flight alone, flying thousands of miles amid the travel concerns to be with the one she loves on their wedding day.

Commitment is really an act, not a word. As Glaiza said, "Meron tayong preconceived notion na 'yung lalaki, siya 'yung mas nagdadala or mas nagmamaneho ng relationship. Pero kayo dapat pareho 'yung nasa driver seat. There is no pattern in relationship. Every relationship is unique. Same element lang natin lahat ay love."

Micro weddings became a trend since the COVID-19 started and this worked perfectly for Glaiza and David.

They marked their marriage with a small group of people, composed of the latter's immediate family, followed by a simple and cozy celebration with the actress' in-laws.

After all, safety is always the top priority and grand weddings can wait.

One of the most-awaited parts in a wedding ceremony is when the bride walks down the aisle. Brides typically wear their dramatic bridal frocks with trains and a long tulle veil with delicate lace atop their heads which make them feel like they are in a fairy tale.

But in Glaiza's case, she walked down the "aisle" in her veil-less floor wedding gown by local fashion designer Happy Andrada, emphasizing the False Positive actress' morena beauty.

Wedding bands are vital elements in marriage vows, symbolizing the couple's commitment as husband and wife.

During Glaiza and David's traditional Irish wedding, they observed the Celtic ritual called handfasting. Instead of exchanging wedding bands, the two tied their hands together as a symbol of the binding of two lives, hence literally "tying the knot."

Exchanging "I dos" in a Game of Thrones location

Glaiza and David's love for nature resonated in their majestic oceanside wedding in the Antrim Coast in Northern Ireland, facing the Atlantic.

And if you're a fan of Game of Thrones, you will recognize the ruins of the Dunluce Castle, one of the locations of the fantasy drama, as the beautiful backdrop of the bride and groom.

For those who plan to have a destination wedding but working on a budget, local coastal destinations near the metro like Bataan and Batangas are perfect wedding venues.
