Nowadays, travel seems to be the best way to unwind. Whether it is to explore another city, relax on the beach, or climb a mountain--every person has a different way of satisfying their sense of wanderlust.
For those who seek a great mountain adventure, a breathtaking sunrise awaits you at the summit of Mt. Kupapey in Maligcong, Bontoc.
To get to the top and witness the stunning view on time, Biyahe ni Drew began their journey early in the morning. They set out with flashlights to help them at the trail and a dog guide named Tamtam who is also ready to assist along the way.
After 1.8 kilometers of trekking for over 40 minutes and finally reaching 1,700 meters above sea level, this is what welcomed the team.
The name of Mt. Kupapey was derived from the time when the mountain was believed to be full of butterflies. However, other people also claim that it was named after the form of rice terraces which look like a butterfly.
“'Yung sa gitna, 'yun 'yung katawan tapos 'yung sa side 'yung pakpak, 'yun na 'yung permanent butterfly nila,” Drew Arellano explained.
As the sun rises, the Kapuso host was indeed fascinated as the light unravels the rice terraces of Maligcong, revealing a picturesque sea of clouds on the side.
“Makikita mo talaga 'yung texture ng mismong photograph kapag kukuha kayo ng picture,” he expressed in awe.
