The Cebu City Police Office will implement maximum tolerance in the event police response is needed when groups or individuals disrupt the peace on the day President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. delivers his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA).

The President will deliver his SONA at 4 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026.

The city police said it will monitor rallies and protest actions, and is ready to deploy its personnel when needed.

If police response will be needed, the city police will implement maximum tolerance.

“Sa darating na SONA, naka-ready lang po ang kapulisan natin dito sa Cebu City Police Office kung ano ang ipag-uutos nila at nagpe=prepare din ang ating personnel kung kailangan nating i-deploy sa mga areas na magkakaroon ng protest, rallies,” said Col. Ricky Sumalde, Acting Director of the Cebu City Police Office.

But Sumalde is hopeful the day of the SONA will remain peaceful.

GATHERINGS

A coalition led by Kilusan para sa Pambansang Demokrasya (KILUSAN) is scheduled to gather in Cebu City, City of Manila, and Quezon City.

In Cebu, the gathering is dubbed SONA ‘TA" (People’s Street Concert) for which activities will occupy key areas downtown - at the Plaza Independencia and Colon Street. 

In Bacolod City in neighboring Negros Occidental, progressive groups will gather for their so-called “counter-SONA.”

They are expected to lay down the promises in his 2025 speech the President allegedly failed to fulfill.

Among those participating in the gathering are workers groups, farmers groups, transport groups.
