5 under-the-radar spots you should see in Laguna

Laguna - branded as the Resort Province of the Philippines - was not spared from the negative economic effects of COVID-19.

From nine million tourist visitors covering March to October in 2019, the numbers have plunged to 500,000 visitors' arrival from January to July this year.

The province though is starting to gradually get back from its feet. Currently, three cities and 14 municipalities have already opened within Laguna. These covers select attractions and establishments located in the first up to the fourth district.

Safety and health protocols are still in place including the wearing of facemasks and face shields, and submitting health declaration forms as well as proof that one is negative from the virus.

In the meantime, Laguna tourism authorities are continuously promoting the province through various new programs.

These include a weekly online show, a virtual tour highlighting the historical and cultural landmarks in different towns and cities, opening six new tourism circuits, and launching a new Laguna tourism campaign complete with a new logo, video, and traveler's guide and website.

This lovely farm occupies two hectares of land along Maharlika Highway, Barangay San Ignacio in San Pablo City. Guests will love the pleasant views of sunflowers and ornamental plants.

Dubbed as the Little Baguio of Santa Maria in Laguna, it's not unusual for this cozy spot to be covered with fog at any time of the day. Adding more to its Baguio feels is the presence of pine trees and strawberry farms. A handful of restaurants also call this park home.

Be in awe of nature at this idyllic spot that features the Puting Bato stream and Daping Puti Falls. The place is stunning with its crystal clear water and abundant eco-system conducive for plants and animals.

Visitors can spend their time here doing horseback riding, chilling in a hammock, and soaking in the natural scenic view.

There's a newly installed life-size Stations of the Cross along the paths going to the waterfalls for those planning to do an eco-pilgrimage in the town.

If you're into clean energy and such topics, then it might be of interest to visit this geothermal plant. It was in 1974 when it was discovered that the province has geothermal resources beneath it. While certainly not a leisure park, the place offers a unique opportunity to admire the many gifts of nature.

Lotuspod Bed and Breakfast Bay

This three-hectare property in Bay, Laguna hosts agricultural tours and takes pride in its organic produce. It's an ideal place also to stage camping, seminars, and team-building activities. The property also holds public events like weekend yoga, cooking classes, and crafts classes, in its lush surroundings.
