Visit Cebu's museums and heritage sites online and for one night only

By Bong Godinez

The show must go on for Cebu's annual cultural spectacle.

Gabii sa Kabilin is taking the digital route for a one-night event tomorrow, Friday, April 16, from 6:00 p.m. to midnight.

People living outside Cebu will have the chance to see and visit many of the province's museums and heritage landmarks.

This year's participating venues include Archdiocesan Museum of Cebu, Basilica Minore del Santo Nino Museum, Casa Gorordo Museum, Fort San Pedro, Museo de Talisay, Sugbu Chinese Heritage Museum, University of San Carlos Museum, and Mandaue Presidencia, among others.

There are 16 participating cultural sites in total, with each venue preparing special presentations to both educate and entertain online viewers.

Some of the topics include “Food at Rajah Humabon's Feast” by the University of San Carlos Museum, “A Gastronomic History of the Talisay Lechon” by Museo de Talisay, and “The Santo Niño de Cebu at the Heart of 500 Years of History” by the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño Museum.

Simply put, there are many fascinating and eye-opening topics lined-up for guests to choose from.

This year's installment is significant as Cebu is marking the 500th anniversary of Ferdinand Magellan's arrival in Cebu, the birth of Christianity in the Philippines, and the victory at Mactan.

The chosen theme for this year, “The Arrival,” is a nod to the mentioned significant historical events.

Gabii sa Kabilin was first launched in 2007 by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) to promote Cebu's rich cultural heritage.

Organizers opted to do the event online for this year due to the pandemic and for health and safety reasons.

Tickets to Gabii sa Kabilin 2021 “The Arrival” is priced at P80 and can be purchased online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/gabii-sa-kabilin-2021-one-night-only-tickets-141652106263.
