Peabo Bryson death

Peabo Bryson, the Grammy-winning R&B singer whose powerful ballads became synonymous with Disney favorites such as "Beauty and the Beast" and "A Whole New World," has died. He was 75.

His family announced the news in a statement released by Variety, sharing that the singer passed away on June 2 while surrounded by loved ones. Bryson had previously suffered a stroke, though no official cause of death was disclosed.

“With broken hearts and profound sadness, the family of two-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and balladeer, Peabo Bryson, announces his passing,” the statement read.

“He transitioned peacefully at 5:00 p.m. ET on the evening of Tuesday, June 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and those closest to him.”

Remembering his decades-long career, Peabo's family said his music became part of countless memorable moments for fans around the world.

“For more than five decades, Peabo's extraordinary voice served as the soundtrack to some of life's most cherished moments,” the statement said.

The family also thanked supporters for the messages of sympathy they have received following his passing.

“We are tremendously moved by the outpouring of love, prayers and support from fans, friends, and colleagues around the world,” they shared.

Peabo earned worldwide recognition through his chart-topping duets, including "Beauty and the Beast" with Celine Dion and "A Whole New World" with Regina Belle. Both songs became enduring Disney classics and helped introduce his voice to generations of listeners.

Beyond his Disney success, Peabo built a distinguished career in R&B spanning more than five decades. Born in South Carolina, he began recording in the 1970s before launching a solo career that produced hits such as "Feel the Fire," "Reaching for the Sky," "I'm So into You," and "If Ever You're in My Arms Again."

He also became known for his collaborations with female vocalists, recording successful duets with artists including Roberta Flack, Angela Bofill, and Regina Belle.

A two-time Grammy winner, Bryson leaves behind a musical legacy that crossed genres and generations, from soulful R&B ballads to some of Disney's most beloved songs.

Fellow singers and friends in the industry took to social media to share their condolences.

The family said details regarding memorial and celebration-of-life services will be announced at a later date.
