Libel in Philippine showbiz

Kapuso anchor-host Arnold Clavio files a cyber libel complaint against Mario Ceniza Jr., who allegedly served as a bodyguard for former congressman Zaldy Co.

According to a report by GMA News, Arnold went to the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office to file the complaint after Mario Jr. accused him of being among the media personalities who allegedly received paper bags filled with money from the former public official.

Arnold said his decision to file the complaint was not an act of revenge but an effort to seek the truth, as the allegations have affected his reputation as a journalist.

"EHEM : Today, I stand for the truth," he wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday, October 14.

Today, the truth will be triumphant."

The seasoned journalist also thanked GMA Network for the trust they give him amid the issue.

Last June, Mario Ceniza Jr. introduced himself as a former staff member of Zaldy Co during a media briefing attended by former representative Mike Defensor and individuals identified as Philippine Marine Corps members who allegedly served as security aides and “bagmen.”

Co has been accused of being one of the alleged masterminds behind the multibillion-peso flood control scandal.

Mario Jr. said.

Following the allegations, Arnold firmly denied the accusations and said he would defend himself in court.

“Lies. Nakakatawa. Nakakalungkot. Talk is cheap,” he said in a statement.

“Bago ang dada, ebidensya muna. Hindi ako natatakot. Wala akong itinatago.

“GMA Network remains committed to responsible journalism. We ask the public to refrain from drawing conclusions based on unverified information.”
