Celebrities who lost their lives to cancer

In 2023, cancer ranked as the third leading cause of death in the Philippines. In an article published by the Philippine News Agency, data from the Philippine Society of Medical Oncology showed that lung cancer topped the list with the highest number of deaths among all types of cancer.
Unfortunately, the showbiz industry has lost many icons and young talents to cancer.
The Gil family, in particular, faced heartbreaking losses when two of their dearest members succumbed to the disease. Mark and Cherie Gil, children of veteran actors Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil, were both diagnosed with cancer. Mark, 52, passed away from liver cancer in 2014; while Cherie, 59, in August 2022 after suffering from endometrial cancer.
