Darryl Yap proceeds with the release of new film; to premiere in February

Despite the controversy surrounding the film The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma, its director, Darryl Yap, is pushing through with its release in February 2025.
Over the past few days, Darryl has released teasers and shared several posts on his social media account, including a screenshot of a list of trending actors on Friday, January 18.
In the list, Pepsi Paloma is second following late American filmmaker David Lynch, and in the top three is pop star Taylor Swift.
“#TROPP #TROPP2025 THE RAPISTS OF #PEPSIPALOMA THIS FEBRUARY PH CINEMAS,” Darryl wrote in his post.
According to one of his posts, Darryl decided to push through with the film this year following the 40th death anniversary of Pepsi Paloma.
“Kaya 2025 ilalabas dahil 40th Death Anniversary ni Pepsi Paloma. Hindi dahil Eleksyon,” said Darryl.
Since the release of its teasers, The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma has faced a lot of controversies because of the high profile names mentioned in the film. The movie will allegedly tackle the "truth" behind the experiences and death of Filipina actress Pepsi Paloma in 1985 who was only 18 years old at the time.
On January 9, Vic Sotto filed 19 counts of cyberlibel against Darryl after the film's teaser mentioned his name. Sotto's legal counsel, Atty. Enrique Dela Cruz, confirmed the case was filed against Yap before the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC).
Darryl Yap did not back down and immediately released a statement online: “Kalayaan ng kahit sino ang magsampa ng reklamo.”
After several back-and-forths of statements, Darryl Yap and Vic Sotto finally attended a hearing at the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 205 following the latter's petition of habeas data against Darryl Yap and his controversial film.
Meanwhile, there is no confirmed exact date of release yet for Darryl Yap's upcoming film The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma.
