 Day6 daesang

MyDays (DAY6 fans) around the world are celebrating after Korean rock band DAY6 officially received their first-ever daesang (Korean grand prize) nine years after their debut.

DAY6, composed of Sungjin, Young K, Wonpil, and Dowoon, received the prestigious 2024 Grand Performer Award last Sunday, November 17, at the first-ever Korea Grand Music Awards held at the Inspire Arena in Incheon.

They also received the Best Band and Best Song awards.

DAY6 leader Sungjin expressed his gratitude during the group's acceptance speech upon receiving their first daesang since their debut on September 7, 2015.

“We've rarely received this many awards before, and today we've been given three, so we want to express our deep gratitude,” he added, “and first of all, MyDays, thanks to you guys we've won three awards! Oh my, thanks!"

Meanwhile, DAY6 main rapper and main vocalist Young K turned sentimental because of their milestone.

He said, “It's such an amazing and grateful moment. Earlier when my same-aged friend Seung-ho [...] introduced our stage and then as we sang together with all of you, from the ending part, especially during “Melt Down,” I started getting emotional.”

“I was wondering why I felt that way, but as it continues to this moment, I feel so much gratitude right now. For such a long time, we've thought a lot about how to continue making music and performing on stage with you all, and to be able to even receive such a big award now. It feels great,” he added.

In the Korean industry, a daesang, also referred to as the “grand prize,” is the highest award at a Korean awards ceremony.
