Pets are great stress relievers and companions. Through time they become a great part of the family and serve as our “babies,” that's why the term “fur baby” was coined for pet dogs and cats.

Over the years, people's behavior when it comes to owning pets has changed. Decades ago, people were inclined to buy pets from stores.

But over the past few years, there has been a growing movement of rescuing abandoned animals, or simply adopting pets from shelters or from other people instead of buying one from a pet shop or a breeder. Hence, the popular slogan “Adopt, don't shop.”

The goal of this movement is to save more animals from cruelty or abandonment and discourage unethical breeding of animals.

Advocates are calling for pet owners to make adoption their first option in order to give shelter and stray animals a chance to live a better life.

Celebrity couple Joey Mead King and Angie Mead King are known animal lovers and pet adoption advocates.

In one of the vlogs of influencer-entrepreneur Angie Mead King, she and her wife showed all of the animals in their farm. In the video description, she wrote: “So far, they are growing, and it's been such a blessing to be able to adopt and take care of them.

“We primarily adopt animals that are abandoned or rescue them, even Leia and Lala were gifted to us from friends. With the exception of the cows, sheep, and fowl which we bought.”

Meanwhile, Angie's wife, model-TV host Joey Mead King shared her wish for World Animal Day at the end of the said vlog.

She said, “My wish for a happy World Animal Day would be that adoption is your best option and that would be such a wonderful, wonderful world if people would consider adopting more than buying a pet.

“As you can see for the King-Mead household, it has always been such an abundance when it comes to adoption.”

Kapuso star and Queen of Creative collaborations Heart Evangelista also talked about the beauty of adopting pets in one of her Instagram posts, where she shared a photo of a stray kitten she met and fed in Sorsogon.

Heart wrote, “What may seem small to you can mean the world to them. Met this angel a while ago and I can't stop thinking about her.

“If I had a superpower, it would be to give every single stray cat and dog a loving home.

“To anyone out there looking for a pet, I hope you consider adopting instead. You will change their lives, and they will also change yours. #AdoptDontShop #MahalKongSorsogon.”
