Kapuso ng Kalikasan Fair

The Kapuso family had an environmentally-conscious two days as they took part in the Kapuso ng Kalikasan Fair held at the GMA Network Center from June 4 to June 5 to celebrate World Environment Day, Philippine Environment Month, and GMA Network's 76th anniversary.

The triple event saw multiple government agencies, sustainable merchants, as well as different food merchants gather at the GMA Network Center to provide food, sustainable and environmentally responsible products, seedling distribution, and a chance to help out the country's farmers.

Two government agencies that participated in the fair was the Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Plant Industry and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources handed out free vegetable, medicinal, and fruit-bearing seedlings to employees. According to Jose Diego E. Roxas, senior agriculturist at the bureau, the activity is in line with the bureau's mission of encouraging tree planting, urban gardening, and educating people on food security and environmental conservation.

Ang ating mga farmers, masisipag po 'yan, magagaling po 'yan sila, pero they cannot do it alone. The consumers also have to take part, not only to produce food for themselves, but also maging responsible sa consumption nila,” he explained. “By planting 'yung seeds and seedlings na dini-distribute po namin, not only do we help 'yung ating mga consumers na magkaroon sila ng sariling pagkain in their own backyards, but at the same time, hopefully, maging aware din sila sa proseso nung pagpapalaki ng halaman for consumption purposes.”

The Department of Agriculture also brought the Kadiwa Market to the fair, selling produce like mangoes, carrots, potatoes, and Benguet cabbage to Kapuso employees. The sale of Benguet cabbages, in particular, were helpful to the farmers dealing with an oversupply of the product.

The Quezon City government also got involved with the fair via REPORMA, which took pre-loved office attire and bags from Kapuso employees to hand them over to graduating college scholars and out-of-school youth to assist them in gaining employment.

Sustainable and eco-friendly enterprises that participated in the fair include Back to Basic Ecostore, The Eco Shift, Messy Bessy, Flaretech Solar Technology, and Bayong Republic Philippines.

Kapuso employees were also fed with food from Max's Chicken, Pancake House, SaladStop!, Yellow Cab, Kraken Takoyaki, Dachimi Snack Bar, DNA Creamery, Razon's Halo-Halo, Inarawan Coffee, and Gong Cha.
